NPower News: The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently approved a significant sum of N19.24 billion for various initiatives related to the N-Power program.
These initiatives include the training of 50,000 non-graduate NPower beneficiaries and the procurement of a taxiway lighting system for airports in Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja.
Additionally, the approved funds will cover consultancy services for the Dadin Kowa 40MW power project in Gombe State and the furnishing of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s 10-storey headquarters in Lagos.
Training for 50,000 Non-Graduate NPower Beneficiaries
Recognizing the fundamental role of skills development and training for non-graduate NPower beneficiaries, the Federal Government took proactive measures in March 2023. Four distinguished agencies were commissioned to provide a nine-month training program to 50,000 non-graduate NPower beneficiaries.
These agencies, known for their excellence in their respective fields, include the National Institute of Transport Technology, Industrial Training Fund, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and the Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute.
N19.24 Billion Fund Approval
The substantial financial approval was announced in an extraordinary meeting of the Federal Executive Council. The council, presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House in Abuja, communicated the government’s commitment towards the empowerment of the N-Power beneficiaries.
Minister Sadiya Farouk, of the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development and Disaster Management, disclosed that the training of non-graduate NPower beneficiaries will require a total sum of N14.21 billion, inclusive of a 7.5% value-added tax (VAT). The government has shown satisfaction with the training agencies’ progress, extending their engagement for the current batch of beneficiaries.
Funds for Additional Key Projects
The approved N19.24 billion is not exclusively earmarked for the NPower beneficiaries’ training. It also covers other pivotal initiatives aimed at strengthening the nation’s infrastructure and improving citizens’ quality of life.
A notable portion of these funds will be directed towards the procurement of a taxiway lighting system in the Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja airports, enhancing safety and efficiency in air travel.
Moreover, the approved budget allocates for consultancy services for the Dadin Kowa 40MW power project in Gombe State. This power project aims to expand and improve the state’s power infrastructure, benefiting Gombe State’s residents immensely.
Lastly, funds are also allocated for the furnishing of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s headquarters in Lagos. This investment will create a modern and conducive work environment, boosting the agency’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.
