For incoming freshmen, MSU offers automatic general Mississippi State University Scholarship based on the following criteria:
- A 3.0 grade-point average (core GPA determined by MSU on a 4.0 scale from grades 9-11) or overall GPA as shown on the official high school transcript.
- Official SAT and ACT scores sent directly to MSU.
To be considered for competitive scholarships (such as departmental, private, leadership, and service scholarships), you must submit the General Scholarship Application.
The Mississippi State University Scholarship committee will begin reviewing Mississippi residents who have:
- At least a 3.0 GPA
- An ACT score of 20 or an SAT score of 1030.
Non-residents with a minimum ACT score of 22 (1100 SAT) and a 3.0 GPA will also be reviewed by the committee.
Mississippi State University Scholarship Renewal and Requirements:
- To receive a scholarship, students must be full-time students during the semester when the award is given.

- Scholarships are not influenced by your scores in the writing sections of the ACT or SAT.
- If you are in a co-op program, your academic scholarships will be put on hold during the work phase.

- Students should not receive more funding than necessary to cover their educational expenses and financial needs. This rule applies to federal, state, and scholarship funding.
- Sometimes, if students receive funding from external organizations or sources, they may end up with more money than needed, which is called an overaward.
- If you have an overaward, your financial aid and scholarships may need to be adjusted.
- If you lose eligibility for a scholarship or financial aid, you may be required to repay the excess money.
- Any financial assistance you receive that is not mentioned in your award letter should be reported to the Department of Student Financial Aid to prevent an overaward.
