Biu & Hawul, Borno State, Nigeria – [March 15, 2025] – In a move aimed at bolstering local economies and improving living standards, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has authorized a N1 billion grant for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and initiated the construction of 600 housing units for teachers and healthcare professionals.

The N1 billion grant will be distributed among 9,403 MSMEs across Biu and Hawul Local Government Areas, signifying a major push towards economic empowerment. Governor Zulum, speaking at the disbursement ceremony in Biu, reiterated his administration’s dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and building a resilient economic foundation for the state.
Grant Distribution Breakdown:
- Biu: 5,603 entrepreneurs to receive N300 million.
- Hawul: 2,000 entrepreneurs to receive N700 million.
- Vulnerable Groups: 1,800 vulnerable youth and families to benefit.
Governor Zulum urged the recipients to utilize the funds strategically to maximize their impact on local economic growth. Furthermore, he directed the Borno State Social Investment Management Programme (BOSIMP) to identify an additional 2,000 vulnerable youths for future support initiatives.
Housing Initiative for Essential Service Providers:
Simultaneously, Governor Zulum laid the foundation for 600 housing units across five locations, specifically designed to accommodate teachers and healthcare workers. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of essential public sector employees.
Housing Project Details:
- 100 units each in Biu, Magumeri, Hawul, and Gubio for teachers.
- 200 units at the Borno State University Teaching Hospital for healthcare workers.
